One of the challenges that new players have when joining BrettSpielWelt is they are unfamiliar with the
specialized jargon used here. What makes matters even worse, is some of that jargon is in German or Based
Upon German.
The Following list of terms and their meanings should help you learn the ropes.

| AFK |
Internet slang for "away from keyboard" meaning that person is logged on but not in front of their computer |
| Aldermann |
The Aldermann is the highest elected position on BSW. Each month the citizens of Hanse towns vote to elect the aldermann. |
| ARMfeld |
ARMfeld is the basic town in brettspielwelt. When you first join BSW, you will become a citizen of ARMfeld. When you reach W2 or K2 will be allowed to join other towns. Citizens of ARMfeld are not allowed to join guilds. |
| BM |
Burgermeister or Mayor of a town |
| Botschafter |
German word for Ambassador. Town's that have built a townhall have a Botschafter. The Botschafter handles trading with other towns and is responsible for setting the Mill and Forge |

Internet slang for "be right back" |
| btw |
Internet slang for "by the way". |
| BSW |

Guildmaster. Each MU game has a guild. The highest ranked player in that game becomes GM(if they want the job) |
| Hanse |
Towns that have built a townhall are part of the Hanse system. Citizens of those towns all allowed to join guilds. |

| hook me |
The /hook or /ghook commands are among the most useful in BSW. Hook me means "come to where I am" the easiest way is by using /ghook command. |

| lag |
Lag is slow server response. Lag refers to the delay between when something is typed or an game action occurs and when the player actually sees it. |

Internet slang for "laughing out loud" |
| lottery |
A lottery is a sweepstakes run by a guild. Everyone that plays that particular game during the lottery period has a chance to win some talers. |
| mill |
As part of the meta-game, towns are required to provide cloth based on their population. The Mill is where towns make cloth. It's BSW's version of the game Simon. |

| t |
BSW slang for "time" t is used to indicate that you think you've waited enough time for the other player to make a move. It's often used in multiple player games when players are waiting for other players to click the OK button. Typing t is a was to indicate that you aren't the one delaying the game. |

TORBEN ARMistice, Madmax, Miezeke. Acronym for the 4 people that created BSW. |

Tournament Master. each Guild has a Tournament master that sets lotteries, festivals and tournaments. |

German term meaning "continue" or "resume". many games have a weiter button that must be clicked to continue on to the next round. |
