If you are starting a new city or have an exsiting city that you'd like to plan the landscaping, George Beringer of las Vegas is your patron saint. George has created a series of city building tools that will assist you in planning your city.

In the most recent version of his city tools, you get a selection of all the landscape types and just click them to select, then click on the city where you want them. You can also save your designs, bring up the current layout for any existing city, zoom in, zoom out, rotate the view. The offline version even has a "image" button which will make a jpg of the town, that you can share with other town members, to show them the design.

George has both an online and offline version. I recommend downloading the offline version, that way you can control everything on your machine.

The tools do have some german text, but most of it will be easily understood. When you make an image, you'll get a popup asking you about the jpeg image quality. It's looking for a number between .1 and 1, with the higher the number the better the quality and therefore larger file size. When you save designs, save them with a .csv file extension.

One other thing to keep in mind, is these are java programs and they take a fair amount of horsepower, so if you have a slow machine, they may appear a little sluggish.

Step 1 is download the City Planner Tool

This is a zipfile, extract it to a directory. In that directory you will have a file called makecity.bat. Just double click that file to open the city planner.

If you would prefer to use the online version. Go to the Las Vegas Website
