The game consists of several rounds, each
with the following phases.
- Determine player order
- Auction Power plants
- Purchase Raw materials
- Expand city network
- Operate power plants
- Collect Income, refill raw materials
Most of the action is in phases 2 thru 4..

|
Player Turn Order:
At the beginning of each turn, the player turn order is determined. ON BSW, you will
see the players names of the right side will be arranged in turn order. This turn order
can change each round. The Player with the most cities connected to their power grid
goes first. In the case of a tie, the tiebreaker is largest power plant number.
On the first turn only, turn order is determined after Phase 2(power plant auction) and
since no player has any cities on their network, it will be based on highest power plant number
|
|
|
Power plant auction:
Each player may purchase, at auction, one power plant per round.
On the first turn, every player must purchase a power plant, on all other turns it is optional.
Each Player may have up to 3 power plants(In a 2 player game each player may own up to 4 power plants).
The power plants, will be sorted by number, with the lowest 4 power plants becoming
the current market, and the 4 highest the future market. Players may only bid on power plants in the current
market.
The power plants indicate the type and amount of raw materials used and the number of cities they can supply.
The number of te power plant represents the minimum bid.
The Type of power plants:
- Coal (brown)
- Oil (Black)
- Hybrid (Black/Brown / Can use Oil, Coal or a combination of the 2)
- Trash (yellow)
- Nuclear (red)
- Eco und Fusion (Green or Blue / Requires no raw materials)
The starting player begins the auction, only the top 4 power plants may be purchased(except
over stage 3 is reached all power plants shown are available). To Bid , first click on the power
plant you want, then use the + and - buttons to change the price, finally click ok. Players keep
bidding in player order, until all but one player passes. I a player passes, they may not re-enter
the auction for that power plant. When it is your turn to start the bidding, if you pass, you may
not bid on ANY power plants for the rest of this turn.Once a power plant is sold, a new power plant is drawn from
the deck and the power plants are resequenced.
|
|
|
Raw Material Purchase:
Players now purchase raw materials
to operate their power plants. Each plant may store double the raw materials it uses
on one turn. Power plants can only store the type of raw material that they use.
Players may only purchase raw materials that they can store.
Prices are shown at the bottom of the screen
in the resource market. So for example, the first 3 coals are 1 each, and the next 3 cost 2 each.
The player last in turn order goes first during the raw material
purchase phase. That player may purchase as many raw materials as they can afford. Players then go in reverse order,
ending with the player that was first in turn order.
|
|
|
Expand City Network:
Again, the phase will start with the player last in turn order and end with the player
that is first.
You must pay the city fee, the first house in the city costs 10, the 2nd costs 15 and the 3rd costs 20.
On the first turn, you may start in any city. After that initial placement, you may only expand to cities
that are connected to your starting city. When connecting to a new city, you pay the city fee(10/15/20) plus
the cost of the connection fee. The connection fee is shown on the pipe between those 2 cities.
In the example shown. Blue is current in Memphis, to connect to St Louis would cost 17, 10 for the city fee
and 7 for the connection fee.
Cities that are touching each other and have no pipe between them(New York/Philadelphia for example), have no connection fees.
At the beginning of the game, only one player may be in a city. Once Stage 2 is reached, 2 players may be in a city and
once stage 3 is reached, 3 players may be in a city.
When there is a power plant in the market, that is equal or lower than the numner of cities connected by the leading player,
that power plant is removed from the game and replaced by a the top card of the power plant deck. This only affects power plants
in the market, not power plants owned by players.
|
|
|
Operate power plants:
You will be shown the power plant manager.
You can move raw materials from one power plant to another, by draging and dropping them.
Click on Feuern/Fire to select the power plants you which to operate. When you have selected
all the power plants you wish to operate, click the ok button.
|
|
|
Collect Income and refill raw materials:
Depending on the amount of cities
you supply will will receive income. The Chart on the left shows the income
amounts. After each player receives their income, the raw materials are refilled for the next turn.
At amount of raw materials refilled depends upon both the stage(1,2,3) and the number of players in the game.
Below is a chart the shows the amount to be refilled. When raw materials are refilled, they start at the highest open
space for that type.

Funkenschlag is played over 3 Stages.
At the beginning we are in Stage 1. In each city, only only
one house may be built. As soon as a player connects 7 cities
(with 2 players: 10; 6 players: Stage 2 begins the next round.
Then each city mya have 2 houses. At the start of the game, a Stage 3 card
is at the bottom of the power plant deck. Once that card is drawn, Stage 3 begins
on the next phase. Once stage 3 begins, 3 houses are allowed per city and during
the power plant auction, the bottom row are also available.
At the end of each round, the most expensive power plant in the market is placed at the bottom
of the deck, under the stage 3 card, and replaced with the top card from the deck.
|
|
Game end:
Funkenschlag ends after phase 4 when a player connects
a minimum of 17 cities. The winner is the player that can supply the most cities, not necessarily the
player that reached 17 cities..
With 2 players it ends with
21 cities, with 5 it ends with 15 and with 6 it ends with 14.

There are 2 maps availalbe, Germany and The United States. The maps
are divided in areas and the number of areas used equals the number of players(except with 2 players the game uses 3 areas
and with 6 players, only 5 areas are used.
