Dvonn - Rules
Stay in contact with life!

1. Preparation
From the chat window:

Type /join and press Enter to join the game;
Type /start and press Enter to begin the game (2 players).

Or if you prefer, you can use the game administration tools.
2. The Objective
Both players try to control as many and high stacks as possible. The top piece of each stack tells you who controls it. But they must stay in contact with life (in the form of the red neutral Dvonn pieces): If a stack loses contact, it dies.
3. Movement

White always begins. Players take alternating turns.

If it is your turn, you move one of your own stacks (a stack whose top piece belongs to you) in a straight line exactly as many spaces as the stack is high. There are two limitations:

- the destination must not be empty.
- the moving stack must not be completely surrounded by other pieces (e.g. in the screen to the left, the stack at I2 and most stacks in row 3 and 4 cannot be moved).

It is allowed to move on top of the Dvonn pieces, then life is contained within the stack. If a move separates stacks from the Dvonn pieces, those stacks will be removed immediately (e.g. if the stacks at J3 and J4 were moved, the stack at K3 would die).

You must make a move if you can. If you cannot move, you lose your turn.

4. The end

The game ends when neither player can make a valid move. For both players, the heights of their controlled stacks are added. Whoever reaches the higher sum, wins the game.

5. Variations / Options

Dvonn offers three options:

/option time x
This limits the time players can take for their moves to x minutes each. If one player leaves the world, time will be halted.

/option profi
The game will start with a setup phase. This means that you do not start with a random layout of pieces, but players set them up by themselves. White places a Dvonn piece first, then black and white again. Black begins with the alternating placement of the normal pieces. White does the first move.

/option log
You can protocol your game for analysing purposes. Logfiles can later be obtained from a website.
