2. Objective

Can't Stop is a simple yet ingenious dice game in which 4 dice are rolled and selectively split into 2 groups of 2.

The game board shows a mountain with eleven ropes numbered from 2 to 12 (consecutively left to right).  The ropes vary in length depending on the chance of rolling their combination (2 [1 + 1] and 12 [6 + 6] have the fewest combinations and are shortest at 3, and 7 has the most combinations [1+6, 2+5, 3+4] and is the longest at 13.

In each round the player brings 3 climbers onto routes.  If all 3 climbers have been started, at least one combination on the dice must match one of the 3 climbers or they all fall.  If it becomes too dangerous, the climbers can place bivouacs (temporary encampments).  If a climber uses this rope again, they start above that bivouac.

Any and all players may use all ropes.  But when a climber reaches the top successfully, that route is no longer available, making it more difficult to roll a successful combination.

The key to Can't Stop is the risk management. Sometimes it is best to make camp and try again later.  But all too often the temptation of a quick win is overwhelming, and bad roll can send all of the climbers screaming into the abyss!

3. Spielablauf

As soon as the game is started, this screen should appear.  The starting player is chosen at random.  If you see the red and green arrows at the bottom right of your screen, it is your turn.  Click on the dice to select the combination (the 2 most recently selected dice are grouped as blue, the other 2 grouped as white). .
The red arrow will set the bivouacs and pass the turn to the next player, while the green arrow is used to continue with your turn and roll again.

The climbers will not actually move up the ropes until the red or green arrow is selected.

In this picture you can see that climbers are on ropes 4, 7 and 8.  The player has only one combination of dice that will keep the climbers from falling, the “2-2”.  Now the player can decide to set the bivouacs and wait until it’s safer (red arrow).

Since this player has climbers on 7 and 8, the probability is good that he will be able to roll again successfully (green arrow).

This screen shot is from a game in progress.  You can see that green has already closed 4 (counting from 2 on the left) and is in a better position than red in most cases with established bivouacs.  In this case, the green player may choose to take more risk than the red player to try to get a quick win.  Even if unsuccessful, green is still in a good position to maintain the lead and possibly win the game.

The game is over when a player successfully climbs 3 ropes to the top.

4. End of the Game

The game is over when a player successfully climbs 3 ropes to the top.

5. Game Options

The following options are available:

noskip: Normally, if a player leaves the game before the game ends, their turn will automatically be skiped. If the noskip option is enabled, they will not be skiped.

team: The team option requires exactly 4 players. They will play as teams with the 1st and 3rd player on one team and the 2nd and 4th player on the other team. The team members climb separately. The must combine to climb at least 5 ropes. However if any team member climbs 3 ropes and stops before the team has at least 5 then the team automatically loses.
Note: It is ok for one player to climb 4 and their partner to have 1, as long as the 3rd and 4th rope are climbed on the same turn.

unique: This option was developed by the game designer, Sid Sackson and is commonly known as "Can't Stop Can't Stop". With this option, a player may not stop if they have a marker on a location with another player's marker. This can make the game a more strategic game, especially with 4 or 5 players.
