Technical Issues
- How do I download the client?
Depending on your operating system, the following links will download the
correct client software:
Instructions for each of those operating systems can be found here:
- What hardware and software do I need?
There is no offical minimum hardware list for using Brettspielwelt, so I can only go by my
personal experience on this. I've used Brettspielwelt with systems as low as a Pentium II-300Mhz with 64MB of RAM.
In fact the BSW client runs perfectly well on that system. I did try to use the BSW client on a 486-100Mhz with 20MB
of RAM and it was unusable. I did manage to get Can't Stop running, of course it took 30 mins for the game to load.
I suspect that the problem on that system was mostly a factor of the lack of RAM.
- I'm on dial-up Internet, will there be a problem?
The answer is a most definite NO. I have used BSW when traveling on dailup connections as low a 14.4
and had no problem. One note however, a few games on BSW require speed(Attribut and Ligretto). Playing these
2 games on a very slow connection will put you at a disadvantage. I would say don't even try Ligretto on a very
slow connection. Attribut, you'll have a slight handicap if your connection speed is under 33.6, but we play Attribut
for fun not for profit right?
- Can I access Brettspielwelt from behind a firewall?
Yes you can. And if you are like most people and have a high speed Interent connection like cable or DSL, I would recommend
having a firewall for general protection of your system.
You might need to adjust your firewall settings to allow access to the following two IP addresses:
- 213.155.73.106
- 213.155.73.107
Also the brettspielwelt client uses port 7670, so you might need to open that port on your firewall.
As a personal recommendation, if you don't have a firewall, I would download
Zone Alarm.
It's free and is an excellent firewall.
- I found a bug, how do I report it?
The way to submit a bug report is to post a message in the
Bug Report Forum
on the Brettspielwelt website. Please keep in mind that the Bulletin Board on the Brettspielwelt website is in german.
You can post your message in english however. Click on Neues Thema beginnen to start a new topic, type a brief
discription in Betreff:, the full description under Beitrag: and then click the Abschicken button to
submit the post. Please try and provide as much detail as possible.
- Can two people play at the same time on the same IP address?
Yes they can, as long as both usernames are registered. If you get a message about an IP conflict, its because
2 users are trying to join the same game and have the same IP address. An example might be 2 computers connected to
the same cable modem. As long as both usernames are registered this will work fine.
Note: If you playing a game with just the 2 of you this is fine, if others are playing, in the same game, it is best to tell them
that the 2 of you are on the same IP address. We wouldn't want anyone to think that you're cheating.
- I forgot my password, what do I do?
Just go to the Reset Password page, type in your nickname and press the "Send Password" Button
