  4. How are medals calculated?
3 Medals are awarded each month(Gold, Silver, Bronze) for each game.

For Single-User games, the medals are given for the single best score of the month.

For Multi-User games, the medal calulation is more complex: Total game points multiplied by winning percentage
Example: You play 4 games of Puerto Rico and your scores in those games are 54 42 37 51. And you win 2 of those 4 games.
You have 184 total points and winning percentage is 50%. So 184 *.50 gives you 92 medal points for the month.
The player with the most medal points gets the Gold medal.

  5. What are lotteries and how do I find out when they are?
On Brettspielwelt, lotteries are a way to earn extra talers(points). Each Multi-User game has a guild associated with it. From time to time the guilds can start lotteries which offer talers to the winners. Once a lottery is started, all games played of that type of game earn the players one lottery ticket. The ticket is shared by all players in that single game. After the lottery ends(they may last from 3 to 7 days). The Tournament Master for that guild draws the winning ticket. The talers are then split among the players who played in that game.

To get an up to date list of current lotteries you can visit the lottery page .

  7. I've seen some suspicious game play which might be cheating, how do I report it?
BSW takes the subject of playfair very seriously. They have a team of mediators. The mediators are all highly respected members of BSW. They volunteer their time to make it a better place. They handle situations of suspected cheating and abusive behavior.

There are several ways to contact them:

The vast majority of BSW players are both honest and courteous. That said, any time human's are at hand, there will always be a small number that will try and cheat. Sometimes many perceived problems are a misunderstanding, so lets try and talk to people when we see a problem. If you still feel that there is a problem, I recommend you do 2 things. First, don't play with that person again. Nothing will stop bad behavior faster than if people stop playing with the folks that have bad behavior. Second, contact the mediators. Even if you don't want to make a formal case, you're input is helpful to them.

One other note, I personally have the utmost respect for the mediators. They are volunteers and they do a largely thankless job. Although I don't always agree with their decisions, I do think they do a terrific job in a very professional manner. They help keep BSW a fun place and they rarely get any recognition.

  8. I've been the victim of abusive behavior, such as being kicked or beamed, what should I do?
Please see the answer to question 7.
